Robins’ Nest Foster Children’s Services

“Tommy already had been in three foster homes, and I didn’t want him to have to go to a fourth. But he was so out of control, and I didn’t know how I could keep him. Thanks to our Robins’ Nest therapist, Tommy and I both got the help we needed.”

In 2004, 627 foster children experienced healing and stability through three services that are dedicated to ensuring that foster children do not languish in the foster-care system or get shuffled from one foster home to another.

Family Ties and Creative Visitation maintain the familial bond through weekly therapeutic visitation services. During the visit, professional staff address the issues that caused the child’s removal from the home, teach appropriate parenting skills, and promote healthy child-parent interaction. Creative Visitation also provides sibling visits in those situations where parents are no longer involved in their children’s lives.

Parent Support Services helps families resolve problems that caused their child’s removal so they can be reunited with their children. After the child is returned, staff support the child and parents to ensure successful family reunification.

Family Group Conferencing is a planning process by which agency staff work with the family to identify everyone who cares about the child (such as extended family members, neighbors, friends, teachers, professionals involved with the family, and clergy) and then bring them all together to develop a plan so that the children can be returned safety to their family of origin.

Behavioral Supports for Foster Children provides intensive home-based treatment which incorporates the foster parents into their foster child’s treatment.

These innovative programs address the problems of children in foster care by achieving timely permanency and preventing the trauma of multiple placements. As a result, children have a family to call their own – either by being reunified with their families or being placed in a loving, adoptive family.
