Transitional Programs for Young Adults “It was scary knowing I could no longer stay in my foster home. But thanks to my Life Link counselor, someone was there. She helped me set goals, secure scholarships so I could attend community college, and find a job. She has faith in me and never let me give up.” In 2004, Life Link and On My Own provided independent living programs for 77 young people aging out of foster care. These programs provide the following services: life-skills training, crisis intervention; individual and group counseling; independent living supervision; assistance with completion of their education; help in securing meaningful employment, medical care and safe housing; and most importantly, planning for the future. By the time these young people complete the program, they possess the skills and self-confidence that are critical for successful transition to adulthood. |
